The Pledge

Below is a pledge you may use to encourage students to make safe choices on spring break. We encourage you to download the PDF pledge, make copies and encourage people to sign them. By just taking the time to agree not to engage in risky behaviors, many terrible things that can happen on spring break may be prevented.

I, ____________________, pledge to make safe and responsible decisions while on spring break.

Before going on spring break, I will do the necessary research on hotel security and choose reputable vendors. I will make sure my parents or guardian have a copy of my important documents and full itinerary.

When driving, I will wear my seat belt at all times. If riding shotgun, I will keep the driver awake. I will not allow anyone in the car to drink and drive.

If I choose to drink, I will be responsible. I will look out for my friends, and will make sure any friend who is too intoxicated to be out is taken home safely.

I will stick together with my friends. I will go out with them, and I will return home with them as well.

I will set my personal limits about alcohol, drugs and sex before I go out each night. I will confidently say “no” to any offers that contradict my decisions made beforehand.

While on spring break, I will obey the laws of that destination.

I will not justify reckless behaviors by assuming “whatever happens on spring break stays on spring break.” I know and understand this is merely a vacation, and I choose to act responsibly.
